Eating as much cake, cookies and ice cream as quickly as is humanly possible might just be every child’s dream job. It’s right up there with fireman, professional athlete and ballerina. So, not surprisingly, there’s a whole sub-class of professional eaters who see dessert as the first course and not the last.

Giant desserts, however, are as much an art-form as a gimmicky, glutinous waste of sugar. And that’s why Tailgate Fan wants to honor these beautiful creations, as well as the people who make a living devouring them. So let’s take a look at some of the biggest desserts and the biggest dessert eaters.

Biggest Wedding Cake Ever

This 15-000-pound wedding cake had seven tiers and stood at more than 17 feet tall. It nearly tripled the size of the previous record holder. Made by the fine folks at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, the cake consisted of 10,000 pounds of cake batter and over 4,800 pounds of vanilla frosting. It’s said the cake could have fed nearly 59,000 people.

Most Birthday Cake Eaten

Back in 2005, Richard LeFevre ate a five-pound birthday cake all by himself in 11 minutes and 26 seconds. You have to imagine that he hasn’t been invited to too many birthday parties in recent years.

Funnel Cake Record

Joey Chestnut, who is arguably the world’s top eater, ate 5.9 pounds of funnel cake in 10 minutes. He’s known for his record-setting hot dog-eating abilities, so this was a bit of a departure for him. But clearly he left enough room for dessert.

Is Eric Booker the King of Desserts?

Eric Booker ate two pounds of chocolate candy bars in six minutes, 49 glazed doughnuts in eight minutes, 50 hamantashen (cookies) in six minutes and 4.5 pumpkin pies in 12 minutes. He has to be the top eater of desserts, no?

No, Patrick Bartoletti is the King of Desserts

Patrick Bartoletti owns many world records, most of which involve dessert foods. In 2007, he ate 9.17 pounds of blueberry pie… without even using his hands. Real mature, Patrick. His other records include 32 large cannoli in six minutes, 72 cupcakes in six minutes, 47 glazed and cream-filled doughnuts in five minutes, 10.8 pounds of key lime pie in eight minutes, 14 cakes (10.5 pounds) in eight minutes, 60 Moon Pies in eight minutes and  one pound of chocolate hearts in seven minutes. Just this list is enough to give you indigestion. So, sorry, Eric, Patrick Bartoletti is definitely the King of Desserts.

Most Ice Cream Eaten

Pro eater Cookie Jarvis — yes, Cookie — holds the world record for eating one gallon, nine ounces of ice cream in 12 minutes. Somewhere out there is a heartbroken individual who has eaten just as much ice cream in a single sitting. But did they do it in such a short period of time?

Longest Ice Cream Sundae

Cavalier, a small town in North Dakota, officially broke the record for longest ice cream sundae, stretching the dessert some 600-plus feet. The sundae contained 150 gallons of ice cream and was large enough to feed the entire town. Sounds like a fun community event for all, unless, of course, eating ice cream out of an aluminum gutter doesn’t appeal to you.
